Coordinator: Annette Hood, YM Sponsors: Joe & Emily Fisher Steve & Faith Nyswonger Randy & Mary Beth Smith Lent Quest 2010FOUND!After four weeks and five clues the 'lost cross' of St. Concordia was found last Sunday. The winning CYO team was Wyatt Brichalli (lead explorer), Kyle Bogart, James Anderson and Devin Fleming. Each received a $20 gift certificate to Gambino's Pizza as well as a cross necklace. The 'lost cross' was discovered laying in the mouth of the cannon located on the northeast lawn of the Cloud County Courthouse.Lent Quest Clue #4Jesus taught us to enter through the 'narrow gate'but the lost cross did not find this fate; Broad is the way where the cross finds rest, looking to the horizon for the final test. Don't overlook our town's historic decor. There are two more clues, but no more. Lent Quest Clue #3Father Barry saw what happened to be a shimmering image in the shape of a cross on his daily running route. At first he thought it was a vision but later he believes it was the Lost Cross of St. Concordia. In fact, he sees the cross daily on his running route. Of course, he doesn't park himself to adore the beauty of this lost treasure since one must not dawdle when traversing busy thoroughfares.Lent Quest Clue #2Historical records of the history of Kansas reveal that the Catholic faith first got its start in the north-central part of the state and more specifically in Cloud County. The Spanish Conquistadors traversed the Kansas plains as early as the 16th century with their armies and with them brough Catholic missionaries, although they weren't armed like the Spanish soldiers. Many of these missionaries lost crosses along their travels, one of them being the Lost Cross of St. Concordia. About 100 years later, settlers began to move into our state gradually from east to west, marking boundaries and surveying the land.Lent Quest Clue #1The city of Concordia has a rich and interesting history. Fr. Joseph Rimmele was the first missionary priest to visit Catholic settlers in Cloud County. He came from St. Mary's Indian Mission in Pottawatomie County around 1869. At this time in history Concordia only had 16 Catholic families. Since then both the City of Concordia and Catholic population has grown substantially. Unfortunately, many of the historic buildings of those early years are now gone and new structures have been erected in their place. However, some historic buildings have been preserved and are still in use. In other places in town, historic structures have been preserved and new additions added to them. One could say that the Lost Cross of Saint Concordia lies somewhere between the old and new, looking to the past while at the same time anticipating the future.Lent Quest is a challenge for our high school CYO members. Each week a new clue is given in the bulletin as they search in teams for the 'Lost Cross of St. Concordia.' The wooden cross [9" in length] is:
